Burbank, Calif. – December 21, 2016 KCETLink, a leading national independent nonprofit public broadcast and digital network, has announced it has received a two-year challenge grant from Newman’s Own Foundation, the independent foundation created by the late actor and philanthropist, Paul Newman. The award to KCETLink was made by Newman’s Own Foundation as part of its commitment to the encouragement of philanthropy. The grant will be used for local KCET pledge programming that celebrates the Los Angeles River and links supporters to L.A. River activities and engagement opportunities.

“We are pleased to be among the recipients of this highly competitive challenge grant from Newman’s Own Foundation,” said Mary Mazur, Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer. “This grant supports local storytelling by providing our viewers with a matching challenge in support of original, local programming, it also provides an incentive for current donors to increase their support and deepen their commitment to KCET.”

Newman’s Own Foundation turns all net profits and royalties from the sale of Newman’s Own products into charitable donations. To date, Paul Newman and Newman’s Own Foundation have given over $475 million to thousands of charities around the world.

“Paul Newman believed that the independent voice played a critical role in making our world a better place,” said Robert Forrester, President and CEO of Newman’s Own Foundation. “We are proud to uphold his values through our longstanding support of public broadcasting, and specifically through our funding of KCET.”
