Nelson Brings Experience in Media, Public Accounting, M&A and Business Development
to Help Grow the Organization

LOS ANGELES – June 25, 2019 – The Public Media Group of Southern California, formed last year by the merger of PBS SoCal and KCETLink Media Group, today named Paul Nelson its Chief Financial Officer, reporting directly to Andrew Russell, President and CEO. In this role, Nelson will direct the Finance, Accounting and Administration functions of the organization and work closely with the Board of Directors on financial planning and management, investment management, business development, growth strategies and strategic planning.

“Paul will bring significant experience, perspective and value to our organization in an exciting time of growth and rapid evolution,” said Andrew Russell, President and CEO of the Public Media Group of Southern California. “It was important that we hire a CFO with a strong background in directing the financial operations of a large company. In addition, Paul brings important business development experience that will be essential as we grow our content and other lines of business.”

Nelson brings more than 20 years of experience in leading finance operations and public accounting engagements at major organizations – fourteen of those in senior leadership roles at national media companies. Previously, Nelson was Senior Vice President of Finance at Tribune Publishing, where he was integral in shaping the digital media strategies of the organization in areas such as digital sales and subscriptions. Additionally as Vice President, Finance and Controller for Universal Studios Home Entertainment, Nelson led efforts to incubate an independent film acquisition and distribution business, as well as build key financial processes and controls for the rapidly changing operation. He started his career at Ernst & Young and KPMG directing financial audits, M&A due diligence engagements and integration planning efforts for private equity clients and large organizations.

“It is an incredible honor to be responsible for fostering the financial integrity and fiscal health of this organization that is so important to this region,” said Nelson. “I am excited to be part of the leadership team responsible for creating new opportunities in public media for Southern California and the nation.”

Nelson was born and raised in L.A., holds double bachelor’s degrees in economics and English from UCLA and is a Certified Public Accountant.
