PBS SoCal Wins National Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Award For VARIETY STUDIO: ACTORS ON ACTORS

Star-Studded Series Honored in the Category of Outstanding Special Class Series Burbank, Calif.May 7, 2019 PBS SoCal, Southern California’s home for PBS programs, announced today that VARIETY STUDIO: ACTORS ON ACTORS won the award for “Outstanding Special Class Series” at the 46th Annual Daytime Emmy® Awards hosted by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS). VARIETY STUDIO: ACTORS ON ACTORS has previously won two Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards, out of five prior nominations.

“We are honored for this national recognition of our Variety Studio series produced in collaboration with our terrific partners at Variety,” said Andrew Russell, President and CEO of PBS SoCal as well as Executive Producer of VARIETY STUDIO: ACTORS ON ACTORS. “It was a big night for PBS, and we’re very happy for our colleagues that produce programs for PBS as together we took home 10 Daytime Emmy Awards and 21 nominations.”

VARIETY STUDIO: ACTORS ON ACTORS won in the special class series category among these outstanding nominees: “Close Up With the Hollywood Reporter,” “Lucky Dog With Brandon McMillan,” “Mysteries & Scandals,” “To Life: How Israeli Volunteers Are Changing the World” and “Working in the Theatre.”

Co-produced by PBS SoCal and Variety Media, LLC., VARIETY STUDIO: ACTORS ON ACTORS is an interview series that features pairings of prominent actors discussing their craft in television and film. The 2018 season included exclusive one-on-one conversations between top acting talent from the year’s most notable television programs. Actors featured in the 2018 season included: Bill Hader (“Barry”) with Jason Bateman (“Ozark” and “Arrested Development”), Michael B. Jordan (“Fahrenheit 451”) with Issa Rae (“Insecure”), Sharon Stone (“Mosaic”) with Debra Messing (“Will & Grace”) and more.

The series was executive produced by Brenda Brkusic Milinkovic, Donna Pennestri, John Ross and Andrew Russell. It was produced by Maris Berzins, Debra Birnbaum, Georg Kallert, Michelle Merker, Diana Nguyen, Jenelle Riley and Rob Schroeder

The 46th Annual Daytime Emmy Creative Arts Awards were held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on Friday, May 3, 2019. The Daytime Emmy Awards recognize outstanding achievement in all fields of daytime television production and are presented to individuals and programs broadcast from 2:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. during the 2018 calendar year.
