Burbank, Calif. – June 5, 2018 – KCET, the nation’s largest independent public television station, announced today the return of fan favorite SHETLAND, the detective drama based on the successful series of novels by acclaimed author Ann Cleeves. Doug Henshall stars as DI Jimmy Perez, a detective who solves mysteries in a tight knit island community against the stunning backdrop of the beautiful but remote Shetland Isles in Scotland. The new season of SHETLAND will premiere with six new 60-minute episodes on Mon., July 9 at 9 p.m. on KCET in Southern California.

SHETLAND will be the centerpiece of a new KCET Monday night lineup that kicks off at 8 p.m. PT with episodes from the very first season of the much beloved hit British crime drama DEATH IN PARADISE. Following the debut of the new season of SHETLAND, viewers can tune in at 10 p.m. PT to the comedy-drama series COLD FEET about a group of couples living in Manchester going through various relationship problems. British action-comedy THE WRONG MANS starring four-time Emmy® Award-winning host of The Late Late Show James Corden and British Comedy Award® winner Mathew Baynton will now air at 11 p.m. PT followed by Academy Award® nominated Lesley Manville’s comedy MUM, airing at 11:30 p.m. PT,

Audiences will be reunited with Perez and his partner DS McIntosh (Alison O’Donnell) as they find themselves embroiled in a new case. The drama will start with convicted murderer Thomas Malone (Stephen Walters) having his sentence overturned after spending 23 years locked up. The court’s decision will lead Perez and McIntosh to reopen the case. However, things are far from simple after Malone returns home and a journalist is killed shortly afterwards. Perez and his team are brought in to look at both cases and find out if there’s a connection.

The new season of SHETLAND will telecast as follows (subject to change):

Mon., July 9

Based upon DNA evidence, Shetlander Thomas Malone has his murder conviction overturned after 23 years in prison. Detective Inspector Perez and his team are faced with re-opening the murder investigation, but also must deal with the murder of journalist Sally McColl that suspiciously followed the return of Malone to Shetland.

Mon., July 16

Thomas Malone is attacked by two of the Shetland residents and almost buried alive.  DI Perez looks into a Norwegian energy company on the island. Perez’ daughter Cassie comes home after breaking up with her boyfriend.

Mon., July 23

A number of questions arise regarding DNA results, as Tosh travels to Norway.  Both Perez and Tosh are led into the murky world of Norwegian far-right groups.

Mon., July 30

DI Perez and Tosh are tracking the prime suspect in Sally McColl’s murder as the Norwegian Secret Service try to warn them.

Mon., Aug. 6

Perez struggles to keep everyone on track, especially since the pressure to re-arrest Malone has never been stronger.

Mon., Aug. 13

Perez is troubled about what he's discovered at the crime scene.  A DNA test reveals a secret about Duncan's real son.
