Burbank, Calif. – April 25, 2017 – KCET, the nation’s largest independent public television station, announced today a string of three documentaries that celebrate the life and work of broadcaster and naturalist Sir David Attenborough beginning with ATTENBOROUGH AT 90 on Tues., May 16 at 9 p.m. on KCET in Southern California. The three specials will showcase his pioneering work on natural history programs that have inspired, entertained and educated people around the world. Attenborough’s fascinating stories are illustrated with footage from the BBC’s extensive natural history archive, highlighting some of the most unforgettable moments of his career.

One week later, on Tues., May 23 at 9 p.m. PT, KCET will air a new two-part series, ZOO QUEST IN COLOUR, starring a much younger Attenborough. This two-part environmental series shows his landmark BBC series “Zoo Quest” footage in color (previously only aired in black and white), letting viewers see the vivid colors of wildlife come to life across the globe. Using recently discovered 16 mm film and coupling the footage with stories from Attenborough and cameraman Charles Lagus, ZOO QUEST IN COLOUR showcases the early wildlife shows in their very best condition.

The Attenborough documentaries will be telecast as follows:

ATTENBOROUGH AT 90 - Tues., May 16 at 9 p.m. PT on KCET in Southern California

In this special, broadcaster and naturalist Sir David Attenborough talks about his life and career as he approaches his 90th birthday. Filmed in front of a live audience, Attenborough discusses the many pivotal moments of his life, from collecting fossils in the Lake District during his childhood to his pioneering work on natural history programs broadcast around the globe. The film also uncovers what happened after the cameras stopped rolling.

ZOO QUEST IN COLOUR “Sierra Leone and Guiana” - Tues., May 23 at 9 p.m. PT on KCET in Southern California

First broadcast in December 1954, “Zoo Quest” changed the way viewers saw the world and launched the career of the young David Attenborough as a wildlife presenter. Broadcast 10 years before the advent of color television, the series was originally thought to have been filmed in black-and-white. This film showcases the very best of “Zoo Quest” in stunning HD color for the very first time thanks to a stunning discovery in the BBC vaults.

ZOO QUEST IN COLOUR “Indonesia” - Tues., May 30 at 9 p.m. PT on KCET in Southern California

In the second part of this two-part series, David Attenborough and cameraman Charles Lagus offer new behind-the-scenes stories on the making of this landmark project.
