Los Angeles, CA - November 28, 2011 - This week, SoCal Connected will air a six-month investigation into the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA). This follow-up report reveals that leaders of the billion dollar agency responsible for providing shelter to LA's most vulnerable residents, spent hundreds of thousands of taxpayer money on questionable expenses.
"Show Me the Money"

Socal Connected's Laurel Erickson revealed in March the huge salary and lavish spending of HACLA's Executive Director, "Rudy" Montiel.  That report contributed to his firing and the firing of two commissioners.  But SoCal Connected didn't stop there.  They battled HACLA for access to thousands of pages of expense reports and credit card receipts of the executive staff.  What did their investigative team find?  $100,000 spent on employee incentives, hundreds of dollars spent on trips to lingerie stores, and two-thousand dollar dinner tabs.  Watch Friday night to learn more about how HACLA spent your money.

"Second Helping"

Just in time for the holiday season, anchor Val Zavala looks into why perfectly good food from banquet halls, caterers and hotels across southern California ends up in landfills. It seems simple - get this food to the hungry. Only it's more complicated than it sounds.

SoCal Connected airs Friday, December 2 at 8:30 p.m. with encore airings on Saturdays at 6:00 PM, Sundays at 6:30 PM, and Mondays at 10:30 PM.

The Executive Producer of SoCal Connected is Bret Marcus. Co-Executive Producer is Justine Schmidt. Anchor is Val Zavala.
