BURBANK, CA - May 16, 2014 - SOCALCONNECTED

,

KCET's Emmy and Peabody Award winning series, examines the problem of

mislabeled seafood in the segment "Fishing for the Truth." When is tuna fish

not really tuna fish? One conservation group found more than half of the fish

sold in Southern California is incorrectly labeled. SOCAL CONNECTED's

science journalist Cara Santa Maria visited the historic Dory Fleet Fish Market

to find out how to determine what you're getting when you buy fish. The

story airs on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 8 p.m.

This week's SOCAL CONNECTED also features:

·

"Bottle to Bottle" -

Derrick Shore heads to Riverside County, home of the largest plastic bottle

recycling plant in the country. See how this massive, cutting-edge plant adds

that bottle you tossed away to a river of plastic -- to be washed, chopped,

dried, melted and sterilized in a cutting-edge process that keeps California at

the top of the recycling chain.

·

"Massaging the Law" -

Val Zavala updates our story on the proliferation of illegal massage parlors,

and looks at recent efforts that give communities more power in keeping

prostitutes from masquerading as masseuses.

·

"Chandelier Tree" - We

share just one more of a million reasons to love Southern California: a corner

of Los Angeles where one resident has turned his front yard tree into a

mesmerizing outdoor light installation.

SOCAL CONNECTED is anchored by 15-time

Emmy-Award winner, Val Zavala. Contributors to SOCAL CONNECTED include

science journalist Cara Santa Maria, reporters Derrick Shore and Jennifer

Sabih, documentary filmmaker Nic Cha Kim and writer Nick Hardcastle.
