LOS ANGELES, November 1: This week SoCal Connected dives into the political and economic issues plaguing our country through the voices of LA's Occupy Movement and local CEOs dedicated to kick starting the economy. Plus, we profile a Northeast neighborhood of Los Angeles where new small businesses are opening and thriving despite the recession. The all-new episode airs Friday, November 4th at 8:30 p.m. on KCET.
"CRISIS OF CONFIDENCE"
Correspondent Jennifer London reports on the parallels between two separate protest movements -- the Occupiers of Los Angeles and the CEOs who took Starbucks Howard Shultz's challenge to stop making political donations and to start hiring. At first glance, the two groups appear to have nothing in common, but a closer look reveals a shared view that Washington is broken and something bold must be done. London joins the 99% on the grounds of City Hall, and speaks to several prominent CEOS who signed on to Shultz's initiative.
"OPEN FOR BUSINESS"
Brian Rooney visits the neighborhood of Highland Park where despite the recession, ordinary citizens are taking risks and successfully opening their own businesses. What makes this boom especially noteworthy is that none of these entrepreneurs secured financing from banks. Instead, they raised funds from family and private investors.

Satirist Brian Unger explores the reality of the disappearing middle class, with a focus on Proctor & Gamble's decision to abandon the middle class by targeting its marketing efforts on high end and bargain-level products.
