BURBANK, Calif.June 1, 2017KCET, the nation’s largest independent public television station, has added some exciting new Sony Pictures Entertainment films to the summer lineup of KCET MUST SEE MOVIES. This fan-favorite series provides a weekly destination for viewers of all ages to watch legendary stars in timeless movies from Hollywood’s most iconic filmmakers. This summer lineup includes both classics and independent films, through a deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment. The new offerings premiere next weekend with Humphrey Bogart, Jose Ferrer, Van Johnson and Fred MacMurray in the 1954 classicThe Caine Mutinyon Fri., June 9 at 8 p.m. on KCET in Southern California.

Pete Hammond continues to host KCET MUST SEE MOVIES in this summer lineup. He is the Chief Film Critic of Deadline Hollywood and host of KCET Cinema Series as well. He is widely considered to be one of the pre-eminent awards season commentators for film and television. During his career, Hammond also has served as film critic for MovieLine, Boxoffice Magazine, Backstage magazine, Hollywood.com and Maxim magazine. He is the recipient of five Emmy® nominations for his television writing and is the winner of the 1996 Publicists Guild of America’s Press Award, only the second journalist in the organization’s 52-year history to receive the award twice (also winning in 2013).

The June lineup for KCET MUST SEE MOVIES is as follows (subject to change):

After The Thin Man” - Fri., June 2 at 8 p.m.

The American film stars William Powel and Myrna Loy as a private detective and his socialite wife with James Stewart featured in the cast.  When the couple returns from vacation to their home in San Francisco on New Year's Eve, the wife’s stuffy family expects the couple to join them for a formal dinner and soon find themselves coerced into a little quiet detective work for the family. (1963)

The Caine Mutiny” - Fri., June 9 at 8 p.m. and encoring Fri., June 16 at 10 p.m.

When a U.S. Naval captain shows signs of mental instability that jeopardizes the ship, the first officer relieves him of command and then faces court-martial for mutiny. The cast includes Humphrey Bogart, Jose Ferrer, Van Johnson and Fred MacMurray. (1954)

The Thin Man Goes Home” - Fri., June 16 at 8 p.m.

Starring William Powell and Myrna Loy as Nick and Nora Charles in their fifth outing of the beloved series. This installment takes place in Nick’s hometown in New England, where an aircraft factory employee is suddenly shot dead before he can reveal anything to Nick. (1945)

The Band Wagon” - Fri., June 23 at 8 p.m.

A pretentious artistic director is hired for a new Broadway musical and changes it beyond recognition. The musical comedy film is directed by Vincente Minnelli and stars Fred Astaire, Cyd Charisse, Oscar Levant. (1953)

Love is Strange” - Fri., June 23 at 10 p.m.

Ben and George take advantage of New York's new gay marriage laws and tie the knot after being together for 39 years. Unfortunately, the Catholic school where George teaches does not approve and they reluctantly fire him, forcing the couple to split up and stay with friends while they sell their apartment and look for cheaper housing. The film stars Marisa Tomei, John Lithgow, and Alfred Molina. (2014)

The Lion In Winter” - Fri., June 30 at 8 p.m.

It is 1183 AD, and King Henry II's three sons all want to inherit the throne, but King Henry (Peter O'Toole) will not commit to making a choice. The sons and his wife (Katharine Hepburn) variously plot to force him to choose. (1958)

Get Low” - Fri., June 30 at 10:15 p.m.

The film is based on a true story of a Tennessee recluse -- Felix Breazeale -- who planned his own funeral while he was still alive, so he could enjoy it. The film stars Robert Duvall, Sissy Spacek, Bill Murray, and Lucas Black. (2010)
