Burbank, Calif. – Nov. 10, 2017 – KCETLink Media Group, a leading national independent nonprofit public broadcast and digital network, announced today that it is bringing Los Angeles' large, diverse storytelling community to television with the launch of a new special TELLING LA. The program explores live storytelling through four radically different Angelenos, and traces the unexpected ways they each discovered Los Angeles. Hosted and produced by Dudley Saunders, TELLING LA premieres on Tues., Dec. 5 at 10 p.m. PT on KCET in Southern California and Tues., Dec. 12 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Link TV nationwide (DirecTV 375 and DISH network 9410). The series is also available online in four chapters at kcet.org/tellingLA and linktv.org/tellingLA

Taped live, TELLING LA uses a theme-driven approach with a host pulling the varied threads together into one over-arching narrative. By the end, the tales of these four disparate storytellers add up to a quirky portrait of how the city transforms even the most dissimilar arrivals into the people we call Angelenos.

Over the last 15 years, live storytelling has grown into a national phenomenon, with a popular public radio series (The Moth) airing nationally and ongoing live events in every major city. With well over a dozen ongoing events throughout the city, Los Angeles has one of the nation's largest storytelling communities. By bringing these vibrant stories to public television, TELLING LA enlightens audiences with a plurality of voices and distinct perspectives that make Southern California one of the most unique places on earth.

Antonio Sacre

Sacre’s stories of growing up bilingually in a Cuban and Irish-American household have been published in award-winning books and audio recordings that are now being developed for film and television. His professional developments and keynote addresses have helped educators teach writing to students from pre-kindergarten through graduate school.

Trini Rodriguez

Co-founder and Executive Director of Tia Chucha’s, a cultural bookstore in the San Fernando Valley that transforms community through ancestral knowledge, Rodriguez is a former bilingual educator, court interpreter, and newspaper editor, who works for personal and collective healing as well as systemic social change.

Barbara H. Clark

With a B.A. degree from Howard University and a M.L.S. degree from University of Southern California, Clark tells original personal stories that describe events from her early life in a small east coast town and later in Los Angeles. She currently conducts LA’s Tell Me A Story storytelling workshop and serves as Board Chair and Artistic Director at the Institute of Musical Arts.

Máire Clerkin

Writer, actor, choreographer, voice actor, and teaching artist with Los Angeles Music Center, Clerkin is a certified Irish dance teacher-adjudicator, with degrees in Performing Arts and Broadcast Journalism. Before emigrating from London in 2003, Clerkin worked in theatre and is currently writing a comedy screenplay about the world of Irish Dance.
