Burbank, Calif. – July 21, 2016 – Southern California’s KCET, the nation’s largest independent public television station, announced today TIGERS ABOUT THE HOUSE, a three-part limited documentary series which follows Australia Zoo’s Giles Clark (who has since left the zoo) as he hand-rears two Sumatran tiger cubs in his own home. Clark, who assists in the birth of the tiger cubs, meticulously provides round-the-clock care in his controlled home environment and travels to the Sumatran tiger’s natural habitat to educate viewers on the rapidly depleting population of wild Sumatran tigers. TIGERS ABOUT THE HOUSE will air on three consecutive Fridays, Aug. 5, 12, and 19 at 7 p.m. on KCET in Southern California. Episodes will also be streamed online in the L.A. area for 14 days following each broadcast at kcet.org/shows/tigers-about-the-house.

Born in August 2013, the cubs are the first in the Australia Zoo's 43-year history. With the Sumatran tiger a highly endangered species, the two tiger cubs – named “Spot” and “Stripe” – were considered by many to be genetically important and essential in helping raise awareness about the plight of their wild cousins.  With only an estimated 400 Sumatran Tigers left in the wild, projects like Australia Zoo's tiger conservation and breeding program are crucial for the survival of the species.

The series spotlights considerable conservation efforts to protect the animal in the wild to ensure the continuation of a new generation of awe-inspiring critically endangered Sumatran tigers.

Episode summaries of TIGERS ABOUT THE HOUSE are as follows:

TIGERS ABOUT THE HOUSE, Episode One – Premieres Friday, Aug. 5 at 7 p.m.

To ensure the survival of two of the most genetically valuable tigers on the planet, international conservation manager Giles Clark takes the cubs home to live with his family, where he and his family give them round-the-clock care. This is a unique look at the first six months of the most critically endangered tigers on earth, revealing the crucial early development of tiger cubs.

TIGERS ABOUT THE HOUSE, Episode Two - Premieres Friday, Aug. 12 at 7 p.m.

The Sumatran tiger cubs are now eight weeks old and have started exploring their new home. Australia Zoo’s Giles Clark then visits the rainforest of Sumatra, home of the tigers in the wild, to see first hand the horrors of poaching and persecution.

TIGERS ABOUT THE HOUSE, Episode Three – Premieres Friday, Aug. 19 at 7 p.m.

In the series conclusion, the Sumatran tiger cubs are now outgrowing Australia Zoo’s Giles Clark’s home and developing adult tiger behaviors. The time comes for them to leave the human home and reintegrate with the rest of the tigers at the zoo.
