Burbank, Calif. – Dec. 1, 2017 – Link TV, a national independent public satellite television network, announced today four additions to documentary film series REEL SOUTH. The series highlights the masterful, provocative Southern tradition of storytelling, exploring the alluring and complicated region and its diverse voices and points of view. REEL SOUTH is hosted by platinum-selling, Grammy®-winning recording artist Darius Rucker (Hootie & The Blowfish) who brings together the authentic stories from one of the most unique corners of America. New episodes of REEL SOUTH will debut a new lineup of films starting Wed., Dec. 6 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Link TV available nationwide (DirecTV 375 and DISH network 9410).
REEL SOUTH will kick off the December lineup on Dec. 6 with the acclaimed film “Deep Run”, a profile of a transgender teen in transition struggling to find acceptance within his community. Executive produced by LGBTQ supporter Susan Sarandon and shot by first-time filmmaker Hillevi Loven, this intimate documentary reveals rebirth and bravery within America’s deeply conservative Bible Belt.

“Deep Run” – Wed., Dec. 6 at 9 p.m. ET/PT
Exiled by family and rejected by an ex, 17-year-old Jasmine finds new love and the courage to become Cole, a strong-willed transgender man, in this powerful verite portrait of trans life in rural North Carolina produced by actress and human rights activist Susan Sarandon. Cole's candid humor and steadfast Christian beliefs counter the bigotry he experiences daily.
“Overburden” – Wed., Dec. 13 at 9 p.m. ET/PT
The lives of two unforgettable women (a fiery, pro-coal right-winger and a tenacious, environmentalist grandmother) collide when a mine disaster shatters their community. Filmed over seven years, the pair's courageous story underscores the need for reconciliation as they take on a rogue industry to help heal their Appalachian Mountain community. Directed by Chad Stevens.
“The State of Eugenics” – Wed., Dec. 20 at 9 p.m. ET/PT
Between 1933 and 1974 the state of North Carolina ran one of the most aggressive eugenics programs, sterilizing more than 7,600 men, women and children. This film follows the journey of survivors, legislators and journalists who insist the state confront its role in the tragic, forced sterilization of thousands of Americans thought to have "undesirable" genetics. Directed by Dawn Sinclair Shapiro.
“120 Days” – Wed., Dec. 27 at 9 p.m. ET/PT
Due to his immigration status, family man Miguel Cortes must make a tough choice. After an unexpected traffic stop, a North Carolina judge has offered Miguel 120 days to get his affairs in order and self-deport to Mexico - leaving his wife and two daughters. Directed by Ted Roach.
