DOC MARTIN MANIA KICKS OFF WITH THE MOVIE THAT STARTED IT
ALL LEADING UP TO SEASON FIVE PREMIERE APRIL 5 ON KCET
Angeles, CA - March 21, 2012 -KCET, public media for Central and Southern
California, invites viewers to join in the infectious craze of Doc Martin, the highest-rated regular
series on public television in Los Angeles, with a series of specials, leading
up to the Season Five premiere.
On April 1 at 9 p.m., KCET is proud to present Doc Martin: The Movie, the predecessor
to the beloved series, which reveals the history of the clever "Doc
Martin" character. After learning that his wife, Petronella, has been
unfaithful - with three of his friends no less - Dr. Martin Bamford (Dr. Martin
Ellingham's character in the movie) leaves London and relocates to the sleepy
coastal town of Port Isaac. There, he works through an identity crisis, while
coming across many interesting people along the way.
At 10:30 p.m.
following the movie debut, viewers can further explore the world of the
doctor and the cast of colorful characters with a behind-the-scenes special
shot exclusively by KCET in Port Isaac, where the series takes place. Featuring
everything from provocative interviews with the actors to hints of what is in
store for the next season, the 30-minute special recaps every episode of Doc Martin leading up to the finale of
On April 5 at 7 p.m.,
KCET will air the final episode of Season Four in which Martin is surprised by the number
of patients coming to see him on the last day before his Surgery closes. Nonetheless, he moves to London while his
estranged partner, Louisa, goes into premature labor.
the much-anticipated Doc Martin Season Five debuts at 8 p.m.! Martin is
struggling to come to terms with fatherhood. At the same time, he is ready to
continue his high-flying career as a consultant in London. His plans change,
however, when he begins have serious doubts about the competency of the new GP
after she misdiagnoses a patient and issues prescriptions for inappropriate
drugs, leaving him to resume duties at the surgery until a replacement GP can
