More than 20 years ago, composer Lisa Bielawa was inspired by her studies of hysteria to create the opera “Vireo: The Spiritual Biography of a Witch’s Accuser.” The made-for-broadcast work will have its worldwide series debut on KCET in Spring of 2017, with all 12 episodes released at once.

Composed by Bielawa on a libretto by Erik Ehn and directed by Charles Otte, “Vireo” stars soprano Rowen Sabala. The opera is an artist residence project of Grand Central Art Center (GCAC), which is under the helm of director John Spiak.
