Burbank, Calif. – Jan. 3, 2017 – KCET, the nation’s largest independent public television station, announced today a new slate of acclaimed international acquired dramas featuring strong leading female characters that will premiere starting Mon., Jan. 23 at 8 p.m. PT. Kicking off the new additions to the KCET programming schedule is British crime drama THE CORONER starring Claire Goose (“Death in Paradise,” “New Tricks”) as a woman who returns to a sleepy seaside town she left as a teenager to take on the role of town coroner.  Acting as an advocate for the deceased, she investigates unexplained deaths with a local detective (Matt Bardock) who just happens to be her childhood sweetheart. THE CORONER will be followed by the station’s Mon., Jan. 23 at 9 p.m. PT premiere of the Australian legal drama JANET KING starring Marta Dusseldorp, (“A Place to Call Home,” “Jack Irish”) as a senior prosecutor who finds herself suddenly thrust into the spotlight on a controversial case after returning from maternity leave.

Continuing to provide viewers with access to quality global programming content, KCET will join the ranks of other stations featuring stunning period programming with the 1920’s set MISS FISHER’S MURDER MYSTERIES starring Essie Davis (“Game of Thrones,” “The Matrix Revolutions). The series will premiere Sun., Feb. 5 at 9 p.m. PT.

Premiere episode descriptions are as follows:

THE CORONER – Mon., Jan.23 at 8 p.m. PT:

High-flying solicitor (Claire Goose) returns to the small South Devon seaside town of Lighthaven that she left as a teenager to take on the role of Coroner. In this premiere episode, a boy is found dead at the foot of a tower. The Detective Sergeant (Matt Bardock) believes it was a tragic suicide, but the Coroner thinks there is more to the case than meets the eye.

JANET KING – Mon., Jan.23 at 9 p.m. PT:

When senior crown prosecutor Janet King (Marta Dusseldorp), returns from maternity leave, she is thrust into the spotlight on a controversial case. In this premiere episode, when King fails to get a suspected sexual predator convicted she throws herself into a case involving a high-ranking police officer who has been charged with the assisted suicide of his wife.

Throughout the series, King clashes with Owen Mitchell (Damian Walshe-Howling), a cunning colleague who will do anything to win. She also contends with Chief Superintendent Jack Rizzoli (Vince Colosimo), who has strong convictions about the direction of the investigations and regularly challenges her authority.

MISS FISHERS MURDER MYSTERIES – Sun., Feb 5 at 9 p.m. PT:

In 1920s Melbourne, Phryne Fisher (Essie Davis) is a thoroughly modern woman operating in a mostly male world. The glamorous lady detective sashays through the back lanes and jazz clubs, fighting injustice with her pearl-handled pistol, her dagger-sharp wit and a gentleman suitor always nearby.
