Haiti - Privatizing Education

In many societies private education is a luxury that only the wealthiest can afford. So you may be surprised to learn that in Haiti, the poorest country in the Western hemisphere, far more children attend private schools than state schools. This despite the fact that nation's constitution stipulates all Haitian children have the right to a free education. Unfortunately, no government in Haitian history has come close to achieving that. Setbacks, including the 2010 earthquake in which at least 200-thousand people died, have made the challenge even more difficult to achieve. But as Correspondent Stephen Gibbs reports from Port au Prince, efforts are being made to make educating children less of a financial burden for parents.

U.S. - Latinos in Silicon Valley

Some of the best minds in the technology field in United States come from Latin America and land in Silicon Valley, in northern California. Latin American brain power is credited for widely-used technologies that include the smart phones we talk to and smart drones that fly medicine to the poor. However, under U.S. President Donald Trump, some Latin Americans are questioning what the future now holds for them. As Correspondent Mike Kirsch tells us their concerns range from obtaining work visas to luring new investors for their projects.
