Buyepongo has a name that they concocted for the sounds they make: buyangú.  At KCET's Studio A, they showcase the diversity of their musical influences by performing "Maestros," a tribute to all the musicians that influenced their sound and trajectory as a band. Their inspirations draw from James Brown, Mulatu Astatke, Billie Holliday to Nina Simone.
