'SEEING ARCHITECTURE' with Mina Marefat, PhD, AIA + Eric Saarinen at Architecture and Design Museum, Los Angeles

Friday, November 9 at 6 p.m.

Filmmaker Eric Saarinen and son of Finnish architect Eero Saarinen joins Mina Marefat, art historian and curator of Eero Saarinen: A Reputation for Innovation (currently on exhibit at the museum) for a discussion. An inCONVERSATION event, architecture and its relationship to film will be just one of the main themes explored in tonight's panel.

Common Ground: The Heart of Community at Japanese American National Museum

This ongoing exhibit presents a series of artifacts, photographs and written records that chronicle 130 years of the Japanese American experience. Organized by curators Glen Kitayama and Cayleen Nakamura, the installation also features multi-media shorts that profile individual stories contributed by visitors to the museum.

Exhibitions is an installation that examines the creation process of a project, the materials used for construction and elements like space and design. Mexico City-based architect Santiago Borja and sculptor Edgar Orlaineta and German artist Tilman Wendland begin their explorations by constructing a dynamic, standing, model of the cover of the book Exhibitions by Klaus Franck published in 1961.

Agustin Lara Musical Tribute at Museum of Latin American Art

Sunday, November 11 at 5 p.m.

The 2-hour event honors one of Mexico's most prolific singer-songwriters, the late Agustin Lara. Renditions of the composer's work will be performed by Mexican tenors Marco Antonio Labastida and Lorenzo Negrete and soprano Maribel Salazar. The evening will conclude with a presentation of The Agustin Lara Award.

Masked Dance & Music of the Tsimshian at W.M. Keck Children's Amphitheater

Saturday, November 10 at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Seattle-based dance group, Git-Hoan Dancers (The People of the Salmon), will take the outdoor stage for a morning and afternoon performance. Enjoy Southeast Alaskan folk stories interpreted through dance.

Bodies and Shadows: Caravaggio and His Legacy at Los Angeles County Museum of Art
