Weekender: From San Diego Architects to Tijuana Music Fests
This weekend, San Diego will be the host of a variety of art and cultural events. It's also a big weekend for music in Tijuana with two concerts gathering a number of international artists.

Friends of San Diego Architecture continue their third Saturday of the month lecture series. This month's guest speaker is Wallace E. Cunningham. The designer of the concrete and floor-to-ceiling glass, Razor Residence in La Jolla will discuss the elements surrounding his approach to design.

U.S./Mexico Border Draw-in at Border Field State Park
Saturday, November 17 at 11 a.m.
Conceived by Los Angeles-based artist Hillary Mushkin, Incendiary Traces, will host another evening of dialogue and collective art-making at Imperial Beach. Members of non-profit The Periscope Project, artist Alessandra Moctezuma and historian Susanna Newbury will be present during the public exchange.

Arab Film Festival at Museum of Photographic Arts
Friday, November 16 and Saturday, November 17
The 16th edition of the festival kicked off October 11 in San Francisco. After traveling through Berkeley, San Jose and Los Angeles it is making its last stop at "America's Finest City." Films, Bahiya & Mahmoud (Lebanon,) Here (Jordan,) More Than Smoke (Jordan,) and Where Do We Go Now? (Lebanon,) will screen tonight. The War Around Us (U.S./Palestine,) I Wish We Were Dancers (Kuwait,) Soul (United Arab Emirates) and Masquerades (Algeria) will be showcased on Saturday.

ArtPower! at UC San Diego presents an evening with writer and radio personality David Sedaris. The night will conclude with a book signing.

'Margaret Noble: 44th and Landis' Performance at Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, Downtown
Saturday, November 17 at 7 p.m.
In Margaret Noble: 44th and Landis (on display until Jan 20, 2013,) multi-disciplinary artist and San Diego-native, Margaret Noble, illustrates the characteristics of the environment she was raised in and presents them through an array of hanging paper cuts. During Saturday's 1-hour event, Noble's work will take a different life as the artist animates the installation with electronic sounds.

Festival Norte Sonoro at Leyvas Paradise
Friday, November 16 at 7 p.m.
Festival Norte Sonoro is about musical collaboration. Presented by art and music organization Nrmal, the project invites international artists for short term residencies that culminate with the production of a digital EP. The 2nd annual concert lineup includes New York-based DJ Rupture, Venezuela's Cardopusher, Montreal native Poirier, Brasil's Psilosamples, Sun Araw and Venus X. All My Friends Music Festival at Casa de la Cultura
Saturday, November 17
Now in its third year, Tijuana's All My Friends Music Festival is bigger than ever. This time around, more than 40 musical acts are scheduled to take the stage. Highlights include performances by Upsilon Acrux, Crystal Antlers, María y José, Helado Negro and Chelsea Wolfe.

Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots at La Jolla Playhouse

Directed by Des McAnuff, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots is an action-packed love story. Set to the music of psychedelic rock band, Flaming Lips the performance features a giant robot and a highly illuminated stage.

Thousands of Haitian refugee families continue to be stranded in Tijuana, a city far from where they hoped would be their final destination. Since their arrival, photojournalist Omar Martínez has been documenting their Mexican lives.
Hsi Lai Temple is the largest Buddhist monastery in Southern California. Opened in 1988, it is also home to one of the best vegetarian buffets in L.A. County. But of course, they don’t advertise that. Still, all visitors, regardless of faith, are welcome.
Roughly 90 years later, the legacy of San Luis Obispo's Motel Inn still stands, along with part of the original building.
