The Power of Stories is an archive of projects submitted every year to Building Healthy Communities (BHC) Statewide Convening. It showcases work created throughout California highlighting the power of individual and collective efforts to promote health and demonstrates how stories have the power to re-imagine and transform our communities. Produced in partnership with the California Endowment.

Project submitted by: Fresno Building Healthy Communities

Project summary: In April of this 2013, a judge ruled that Fresno County is no longer required to offer healthcare services and eliminate funding for the Medically Indigent Services Program (MISP.) A program that provides free medical services to an estimated 6,000 undocumented residents -- many of whom are farmworkers. Juliana Doe and her family are some of those residents who currently benefit from MISP.
