Season 1, Episode 5

Martin's aunt Joan's old flame comes back into her life and whisks her off her feet. But her suitor, John Slater, is seriously ill with a life threatening heart condition, as Doc Martin discovers when he insists on running tests. Slater wants to rekindle the love affair with Joan and sail off into the sunset with her. However, Martin is worried that Joan will have to nurse a very sick man.

Season 1, Episode 6: Season Finale

Gossip about the blood phobia that forced Martin to terminate his brilliant career as a surgeon has spread around the village like wildfire. He's forced to confront it when he gets an urgent call from the pub. Bert has had a terrible accident while working there, and he's bleeding profusely. The sight of blood pouring from Bert's wound triggers an all-too-familiar panic attack for Martin.

Season 2, Episode 1: Season Premiere

Dr. Martin Ellingham is as awkward as ever when it comes to relationships with women. He makes a terrible faux pas just when things are heating up between him and school teacher Louisa Glasson. She can't forgive him for accusing her of having poor dental hygiene. Meanwhile, Muriel's condition deteriorates, and Martin suspects that she's developed dementia.

Season 2, Episode 2

Louisa wants a promotion as headmaster at Portwenn Primary School, but the odds seem to be stacked against her. Meanwhile, Bert Large is testing out his culinary skills while taking over Mrs. Cronk's fish and chip shop when she's in the hospital. He goes to some unusual lengths to improve the food. Martin discovers that the skin infection affecting the local children is not impetigo, as he had initially diagnosed, but a rare condition usually only passed by animals.

Season 2, Episode 3

Bert Large has been hiding a heartbreaking secret from his son Al that threatens their close-knit relationship. His reluctance to produce his son's birth certificate causes Al to suspect that Bert might not be his dad, after all. Martin visits the Flint brothers at their remote country home to diagnose their chronic stomach disorders. A blood test confirms they have salmonella poisoning, but something else is odd about this family. Meanwhile, PC Mark Mylow has to deal with his domineering sister's arrival in Portwenn.
