Fantasy and Liberation

The 18th annual Fine Cut Festival of Films is a collection of short films from student and emerging filmmakers. In this episode, "Hum" from the U.S. (Animation), "Midnight" from Spain (Drama), "The Machinator" from Argentina (Animation), "The Burning" from the U.K. (Fantasy), and "Jacob" from Israel (Animation).

"Hum"

A solitary dish washing robot living out his life in the back room of a restaurant is enlightened to the world that exists beyond his four walls, with the help of a small friend he breaks free of confinement to pursue his dream of exploration.

"Midnight"

Hugo, a new writer, presents his first novel at a press conference. There he meets a work placement journalist who feels attracted by the story behind his book. Due to this interest, they end up having a conversation with such an unexpected complicity, that it could cause a change in both of their lives

"The Machinator"

It is a love story of John, a young inventor of tin robots, and Anna, a beautiful girl selling paper cranes in place of Arthur, his father. Arthur oppose the relationship and try to prevent it. John achieve overcome all obstacles and get to his love.

"The Burning"

Carmilla, a girl with a rare skin disease that makes it burn, comes of age as she witnesses the relationship of the two female nurses taking care of her as they burn too, but in a triangle of love, passion and jealousy.

"Jacob"

An old man wanders the desert.
