Lazy Ox Canteen: 7oz Burger & Roasted Cauliflower

This week we're back in downtown Los Angeles, treating blogger Maya Meinert of shopeatsleep.com to The Lazy Ox Canteen in Little Tokyo. The restaurant's non-descript exterior is a good fit for this understated neighborhood and contrasts nicely with the polished interior. For practical reasons, our shoot took place outside in the sidewalk/patio area which did not affect the quality of the food, but perhaps had an impact on the quality of the service.

Unfortunately, Maya was made to wait a rather long amount of time for her food and it's reflected in our video. (That's worth noting in case these issues really matter to you when evaluating a restaurant.)

The service notwithstanding, Maya really enjoyed her meal and ended going home with some hearty leftovers. She ordered the much-discussed burger which is listed on The Lazy Ox's site as being 8 ounces, but was 7 ounces on the menu that day. (Another minor discrepancy that I wanted to point out to you just in case you thought our label was off.)

In addition to what she considered to be a pricey albeit substantial burger, Maya also had a side of their roasted cauliflower and again, she was not disappointed. Always a plus, considering the service.

That's it for this week's episode of Free Lunch. We'd really like to hear from you. Have you been to The Lazy Ox Canteen? What do you think about the quality to price ratio of the Lazy Ox burger? Have you had similar experiences with the service or was it just our luck that day?
