Reporter Roundup

J, Prop 16, LAUSD and Punitive Justice Election Results

On the Nov. 6 edition of the Reporter Roundup, KPCC reporters and a guest discuss updates on election results thus far, including Measure J, proposition 16, and the Los Angeles Unified School District board, plus California’s shift away from punitive justice.

Measure J
Measure J asked L.A. County voters if they wanted to dedicate 10% of the county’s budget to criminal justice reform programs. Emily Guerin discusses what will happen now that it passed.

Punitive Justice Shift
California’s shift from a tough-on-crime state towards a rehabilitation focus has gained steam within the decade. Byrhonda Lyons of CalMatters talks about the change.

Prop. 16
Voters also weighed in on education issues in this election. Adolfo Guzman-Lopez offers an update on proposition 16, which would have allowed affirmative action.
