Pandemic Closes 1,500 Child Care Providers, Movie Theaters Request Bailout

On the October 1 edition of the Reporter Roundup, KPCC reporters and a KCET producer discuss the permanent shutdown of child care providers, a call for a movie theater bailout and a powerful artist movement born on Southern California beaches.

Child Care Providers
More than 1,500 child care providers have closed permanently during the pandemic and the ones that remain open are struggling, according to the state. Mariana Dale explains why.

Movie Theaters
A group theater owners and Hollywood filmmakers are asking Washington lawmakers to help keep movie theaters afloat. Mike Roe offers the details.

Light & Space Artist Movement
A group of artists working in Los Angeles in the 1960s-1970s began experimenting with light as a medium and rethinking the space around their work. Sue Ding, producer and director of the premiere episode of “Artbound,” discusses how their work is relevant today more than ever.
