Unhoused Students, Nursing Home Workers, Calif. Propositions
On the Oct. 23 edition of the Reporter Roundup, KPCC reporters discuss the number of LAUSD students experiencing homelessness, the pressure nursing home workers are experiencing under COVID-19 and what a “yes” vote on Proposition 25 would mean.
Homelessness in LAUSD
Researchers at UCLA say more than a quarter of a million K-12 California students experienced homelessness during the 2018-2019 school year. That number could fill five Dodgers stadiums almost five times. Itxy Quintanilla discusses the report’s findings.
Nursing Home Workers
Data indicates that staff overlap among nursing homes helped spread coronavirus across the country’s elderly. With the majority of these healthcare workers being underpaid women of color, Jackie Fortier reports on what advocates are calling for.
Prop. 25
Proposition 25 is among a number of criminal justice propositions on the ballot this year. Frank Stoltze explains what it would do if passed.
Bonus: One-minute “Ballot Brief” explainer on Proposition 20, another criminal justice measure.
