Dole Food's Leaked Memo And Official Response
When Dole Food Company, Inc. asked an attorney to look into how it was handling worker health and safety issues at its facilities, its executives may not have expected such a negative response.
The attorney laid out, in detail, exactly how the company was exposing itself to risk by violating state and federal workplace safety standards. He also recommended the company seriously reconsider a policy that may have encouraged supervisors not to report serious on-the-job injuries, a clear violation of OSHA regulations.
SoCal Connected obtained a copy of that memo from an anonymous source, in part prompting a six-month investigation by the show into how employers manage to avoid paying the price for such violations.
Dole refused to go on camera for the subsequent story, but they did issue a written response.
