Fighting Unfair Traffic Traps in L.A.

One Los Angeles resident has, by his own estimate, cost the city over $1 million dollars, but he isn't making any apologies. In fact, many are calling him a hero. SoCal Connected correspondent Laurel Erickson takes a look at one man who fought the law - and won. His victory resulted in the end of a lucrative traffic trap and is now saving drivers thousands of dollars. Next, Craig Stanford, co-director of The Jane Goodall Institute at USC, sits down with Madeleine Brand to discuss his book "Planet Without Apes". And finally, an animal story that will touch your heart: a gorilla is reunited with the British conservationist who raised him as a baby in England and returned him to Africa.

Homeless Special

On any given night, 47,000 men, women, and children live on the streets of Los Angeles – sleeping in tents, cars, on sidewalks, and in emergency shelters. The enormity of the homeless crisis led SoCal Connected to ask the difficult questions: How do we create more affordable housing? Are we willing to pay for critical services such as mental health counseling, medical care, job training, and alcohol/drug rehab programs? With limited resources available, how do we decide who gets helped first? And how do we prevent more people from ending up on the streets every day?
