Get Involved - Facilitate, Video and Bike the Vote
Election day is just around the corner, but there is more to do on November 4th than just vote. It may be too late to get involved as a poll-worker for this year's election, but check in just in case with your County Election Office, as some may still be in need of assistance on election day.
Social networking site MeetUp.com offers political groups for every affiliation and stripe in the SoCal area.
YouTube and PBS are joining forces on a project called Video Your Vote. Video your thoughts about your voting experience - whether it's getting up early to make it before work, or standing in a line 5 blocks long - and upload it to Youtube. The best and most interesting videos will be featured on public television websites across the country.
(Just make sure you adhere to CA laws about video recording near polling places.)
We sent a call out on Twitter for non-election suggestions on things to get involved with this week, and KCET Local Blogger and twitter diva Ophelia Chong was, of course, Jane-on-the-spot with an immediate suggestion: "ophelia @SoCalConnected CICLE http://tinyurl.com/jmvng." For those of you who don't speak Tweet, Ophelia just directed you to C.I.C.L.E. - Cyclists Inciting Change thru Live Exchange - is a nonprofit organization based in Los Angeles "working to promote the bicycle as a viable, healthy, and sustainable transportation choice."
Basically what Ophelia is saying is: Get out and vote or get on your bike. Either way, GET!
Got any additional ways to get to get involved in SoCal? Leave it here in comments!
