How to Start a Village
The first tip in starting your own village - call your friends.
In our segment "It Takes a Village," we see how local seniors are working together through a program of membership-based retirement groups known as the Village Movement. Each "village" is actually a grassroots, neighbor-to-neighbor "virtual network" created to provide older adults with more lifestyle options, including the ability to continue living at home.
The movement got its start in Boston in 2002 and has continued to expand nationwide. But even if you don't find a "village" in or near your neighborhood, you can always start your own.
