The Power of Quakes

We've all heard of the Richter Scale, and most of us know it's logarithmic - a 7.0 is ten times more powerful than a 6.0.
Here's a little chart that shows just how much energy various levels of quakes have, measured by the equivalent energy given off by an amount of TNT.

Note that no quake above 10.0 has ever been recorded, and most scientists don't believe any existing faults are capable of producing quakes above that level.
