SoCal Update

Farmworkers Face Vaccine Barriers | Mar. 4

On the March 4 episode of SoCal Update, the challenges farmworkers face in getting the COVID-19 vaccine are symptoms of the conditions that shape their lives. KPCC’s Take Two Producer Julia Paskin discusses the barriers standing between this community and the vaccine.

Gov. Gavin Newsom pledged to send more vaccines to Central Valley farmworkers, but there are still a lot of barriers to getting those shots out. The need to miss a day of work, poor internet access and lack of transportation to vaccination sites are some of the obstacles in the way. But hesitation is also rooted in fear and misinformation about vaccine costs, side effects and deportation.
