SoCal Update

On the March 1 episode of SoCal Update, a statewide group that tracks sexual abuse and harassment is praising the work of confidential survivor advocates on college campuses. KPCC Higher Education Reporter Adolfo Guzman-Lopez explains what they do.

The role of an advocate is to help college students and employees who’ve experienced sexual abuse or harassment in getting counseling, making appointments with hospitals, or filing abuse complaints with university officials or the police. Colleges have been hiring advocates in the last decade as administrators have made it a priority to reduce sexual violence and harassment of students and employees.
