SoCal Update

On the March 19 episode of SoCal Update, KPCC Transportation Reporter Ryan Fonseca reports local public transit agencies are getting more than $1 billion in federal aid to recover from the pandemic. KPCC Arts and Entertainment Reporter John Horn discusses the Academy Awards requiring attendance after many months of events going virtual during the pandemic.

The American Rescue Plan will provide more than $30 billion to keep buses and trains moving. The greater Los Angeles area will receive about $1.6 billion, which will help restore bus and rail service to pre-pandemic levels by September.

If you’re nominated for an Oscar, you better show up to the awards ceremony on April 25, according to the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. The event will be treated as an active movie set with COVID-19 testing and safety protocols.
