SoCal Update

On the March 10 episode of SoCal Update, residents of Silverado Canyon in Orange County woke up to an unpleasant surprise. KPCC Science Reporter Jacob Margolis explains why this happened.

The area around Silverado Canyon burned last year in the Bond Fire and this morning’s rain triggered mudslides, making the road impassable. Mudflows and flooding are common in burn areas from recent wildfires, so while strong rain isn't expected, every steep area that’s burned in the past two years is of concern.
