SoCal Update

Tackling Anti-Asian Hate Crime Surge | Mar. 4

On the March 4 episode of SoCal Update, anti-Asian hate incidents have been on the rise. KPCC Asian American Communities Reporter Josie Huang reports on how the Asian American community is reacting to this troubling trend in L.A.

While attacks on Asian Americans have been rising during the pandemic, last month’s assault in Koreatown, plus recent violence elsewhere against Asian elders recorded on video, has city officials speaking out more forcefully on the issue. Asian American community leaders are asking the Los Angeles Police Department to train officers on identifying hate crimes — and on following through on protecting this community.
