Tips to Prep Kids for School Reopenings | Mar. 9

On the March 9 episode of SoCal Update, many districts are preparing to reopen elementary schools by the end of the month. KPCC Reporter Caroline Champlin shares tips to ease the transition after a year of closures caused by COVID-19.

Debra Duardo, the superintendent at the Los Angeles County Office of Education, said to help set kids’ expectations, families can begin discussing how classrooms will set up differently with social distancing guidelines. It’s also important to pay close attention to sudden changes in behavior to get a sense of any changes in children’s mental health.
