Citing safety and functionality, Inyo National Forest officials removed Silver Lake's boat dock last week. "The dock was not attached to its anchor block, the float material located in the concrete cells was gone, and the dock no longer floated as designed," said Deb Schweizer, forest spokesperson. "For these reasons, engineering staff from the forest removed the dock."

The small, beautiful body of water is located on June Lake Loop Road at 7,200 feet elevation. A popular fishing spot, its namesake campground has over 60 spots and serves as an access point into Ansel Adams Wilderness.

Forest officials are working with the California Department of Boating on replacing the dock, but when that will happen is unknown due to a lack of funding. But not all is lost: the launch ramp remains in place.
