Snow Prompts Road Closures, Restrictions in SoCal Mountains [Updated]

[Update, 1:15 p.m.: State Route 2 has reopened, but chains are required. Snow and wind advisories, will remain in effect through Saturday afternoon. Update corrected to add chains requirement.]

[Update, 9:15 a.m.: Caltrans has closed State Route 2 between Islip Saddle and 5 miles west of Big Pines Highway.]

[Update, 11:40 p.m.: Chains are now required on Big Pines Highway above 6,000 feet and Table Mountain Road above 6,500 feet, according to the L.A. County Department of Public Works.]

Some Angeles National Forest Roads will close after midnight due to a forecast of snow and expected icy road conditions, authorities said.

As of 1 a.m. Friday, Angeles Forest Highway between Aliso Canyon Road and Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road and Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road between Angeles Crest Highway and Angeles Forest Highway will be closed, according to the sheriff's department.

Local access will not be permitted while the closures are in effect and the closures won't be lifted until the storm has passed and roads have been inspected, authorities said.

In San Bernardino National Forest, chains are required on State Route 18 between Big Bear Dam and six miles east of State Route 330 for all vehicles except for ones with 4-wheel drive and snow tires, according to Caltrans.

[Update: 9:25 a.m.: Caltrans has also instituted a chains requirement between Onyx Summit and the city of Big Bear on State Route 38. 4-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires are exempt.]
