The Totally Fake Latino News, Episode 3

Support Provided By

Southland Sessions Presents: From high school operas and drive-thru art exhibitions to Chicano comedies and underground DJ sets — we are showcasing the vibrancy of arts and culture across our city today.

The Totally Fake Latino News is a bi-weekly comedy sketch series from performance troupe Culture Clash. Culture Clash offers 10-minute doses of levity, poetics and payasadas (clowning), from their homes and streets of SoCal and beyond as part of La Jolla Playhouse’s acclaimed Without Walls (WOW) program, a series of digitally-delivered productions.

Title of Work: The Totally Fake Latino News, Episode 3: "Episode Trey"
Presented By: Culture Clash
Originally Presented: July 10, 2020
Edited By: Pablo Prietto
Curated By: Ric Salinas
Comissioned By: La Jolla Playhouse WOW

Culture Clash’s episode TREY finds The Boys on firm satirical tierra firma. The humor and silver linings are there in live action and stunning animation, as is the poetic eloquence of hero Mr. James Baldwin and a special guest appearance by Spike Lee repertory veteran and solo performer Roger Guenveur Smith as Frederick Douglas . In this 4th of July pandemic/revolution special, the sparks fly from the illegal Mexican Firecrackers as we embrace all that is American and revolutionary! Wear your face masks! If NASCAR King Richard Petty can as he does in EP TREY then so can you! Where else can you see NASCAR and James Baldwin together? Viva a WOW!

About Culture Clash
Culture Clash is a Chicano/Latino performance troupe composed of the writers- satirists Richard Montoya, Ric Salinas, and Herbert Sigüenza.
