Facts About Seniors Driving

There are 7,000-10,000 individuals who turn 65 every day. By 2030, every 1 in 5 drivers will be a senior citizen. Richard Kohr, with the DMV, explains how deteriorating vision makes older drivers vulnerable to serious, even life-threatening accidents. He points out the warning signs indicating a senior can no longer drive safely. Mr. Kohr suggests alternatives to taking the keys away. The DMV offers seniors restricted licenses that allow the senior to continue driving but with limitations, for instance, no freeway driving. Mr. Kohr also comments on refresher courses designed for seniors to help them with safety practices offered by the AARP and other organizations. These are remedies to insure seniors are not a danger to themselves and others when they get behind the wheel.
