The Center for Visual Music presents Jordan Belson: Films Sacred and Profane at LACMA tonight starting at 7:30 p.m. Belson belongs to a tradition in 20th century avant-garde film practice devoted to expanded and cosmic cinema, in which films create an exploration of consciousness through light, color, pattern, rhythms and sound. The show features early works from the 1950s (Caravan and Séance), as well as a new print of his celebrated 1972 film Chakra and the 2005 Epilogue. The program will be introduced by CVM's archivist and curator Cindy Keefer.
Edward Cella Art + Architecture presents Convergence: Art, Memory and Science in the Work of Deborah Aschheim, Laurie Frick, George Legrady and Brad Miller.The event offers an opportunity to discuss "the function of artistic inquiry within the cognitive sciences including the roles of personal experience, data collection and research." The event starts at 4:00 p.m., and is free and open to the public; to reserve a seat, call 323-525-0053.
Curious about shooting movies in 3-D? The Echo Park Film Center is offering a two-day intensive led by Eric Kurland titled Bolex 16mm 3-D Workshop, between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. today and tomorrow. Kurland will cover the history of 3-D cinema, shooting techniques, hand processing (!) and 3-D projection, and participants will get to use Bolex cameras with vintage 3-D lenses. The tuition is $100/$80 for members.
REDCAT presents its 6th annual International Children's Film Festival featuring multiple programs. Today's first show, "Tally Ho: Films That Fly High," starts at noon, and the festival continues through Sunday, April 17. Highlights this year include new animation from China, and a program of work by indigenous filmmakers.
The Hungarian Documentary Film Festivalat the Wende Museum in Culver City will showcase two films, Guilt and Impunity at 6:00 p.m. and Where There's Tyranny at 8:00 p.m. Reservations required, as space is limited: Please email: info@wendemuseum.org

REDCAT continues the showcase of work by Michael Robinson with a show titled Victory Over the Sun: Films and Videos by Michael Robinson, starting at 8:30 p.m. Robinson was recently celebrated as one of the top experimental filmmakers of the current decade by Film Comment, and his body of work has been described as one "that explores the poetics of loss and the dangers of mediated experience."
