Expect Short Traffic Delays All Summer at Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks

Vehicles wind through a construction zone in Sequoia & Kings National Park in 2007

Nearly all roads and parking areas within Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks will be receiving surface seal treatment this summer and fall, officials warned last week. That said, visitors should expect "intermittent delays of up to 15 minutes each from 7:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m. from Mondays through Fridays through mid-November 2011," according to a news release.

Additionally, some areas like Panoramic Point Road, Crescent Meadow/Moro Rock Road, and Mineral King Road are expected to be closed for a day or two during treatments.

The work is in addition to other construction projects throughout the parks, but planners intend to coordinate schedules to avoid any doubling of delays.

The Park Service maintains a road conditions website and hotline at (559) 565-3341.
