Griffith Park to Reopen Saturday
The severe wind this week took down hundreds of trees in Griffith Park, knocking out power to its eastside. All that combined with high fire danger prompted the city of Los Angeles to shut down the 4,300-acre park Thursday afternoon. But the closure will not last long. Park officials announced today that the park will reopen Saturday. "Crews have been engaged in an extensive cleanup effort over the last 24 hours to address damage created by the windstorm, and allow for safe re-entry into the park and its facilities," said Andrea Epstein, a Recreation and Parks Department spokesperson.
The power outage also affected the department's golf and tennis reservation systems, which are expected to be up and running by the close of business today.
