Just in Time for National Trails Day, Angeles Crest Highway to Reopen Friday
Good news for the start of summer! Caltrans today announced that a major portion of the Angeles Crest Highway (SR-2), closed for nearly a year and a half, will reopen this Friday, June 3rd at 10 a.m.
The 7-mile closure was a result of rain storms washing away roadway sections within the massive Station Fire burn area, where tens of thousands of acres of recreation sites and trails in the Angeles National Forest were also off limits. Luckily, over 100 miles of trails were re-opened last month.
The opening also couldn't have better timing. Saturday, June 4th, is National Trails Day. Char Miller, Pomona College's Director of Environmental Analysis, shares some suggestions of where to go within the forest.
