Tioga Pass Road to Open Monday in Yosemite National Park
Tioga Pass Road will open on May 7, Yosemite National Park officials announced today. That's quite a difference compared to last year when it opened mid-June due to a heavy snow season. By contrast, this year has been extremely dry.
Still, officials warned in a press release that "snow and icy conditions may still exist on hiking trails at the higher elevations" and that "visitors are urged to be prepared for snowy conditions and possible treacherous stream crossings while hiking the backcountry."
Campgrounds and commercials services along the road will remain closed with no opening dates so far anticipated, and there is no electricity available in the Tuolumne Meadows due to damage to two transmission lines.
Although 28 miles of Tioga Road is currently closed to vehicles, it is open to bicycles.
