'A Star Is Born' Rocks the Stage at the Fall 2018 KCET Cinema Series

Following a screening of “A Star Is Born,” editor Jay Cassidy attended a Q&A hosted by Cinema Series host Pete Hammond. In this new take on the iconic love story, four-time Oscar ® nominee Bradley Cooper, makes his directorial debut, and also stars alongside multiple award-winning, Oscar-nominated music superstar Lady Gaga in her first leading role in a major motion picture. Cooper portrays seasoned musician Jackson Maine, who discovers and falls in love with struggling artist Ally. She has given up on her dream to become a successful singer, until she meets Jack, who immediately sees her natural talent.

Jay Cassidy comes to “A Star Is Born” from his previous Oscar-nominated film editing collaborations with Bradley Cooper that have included “Silver Linings Playbook", "Joy” and “American Hustle”.

Cassidy has edited more than 30 noteworthy films, and has a long term collaborative relationship with Sean Penn, having edited all of the films directed by Penn. Most notably, “Into the Wild” in 2007, for which he received his first Oscar nomination for Best Film Editing. His other credits include “Fury” and “Foxcatcher” in 2014 as well as “Thank You for Your Service” in 2017.

Cassidy began his career as a film editor in the 1970s, working on documentaries and political advertisements. His earlier credits include “Brothers”, “Conviction”, “Waiting for Superman”, “Tuck Everlasting”, “Urban Legend ” and Al Gore’s Oscar-winning documentary “An Inconvenient Truth”.
