'Brittany Runs A Marathon' Screens at the 2019 Fall KCET Cinema Series

Following a screening of “Brittany Runs A Marathon,” screenwriter and director Paul Downs Colaizzo joins KCET Cinema Series host Pete Hammond for a post screening Q&A.  The central character of the film, Brittany Forgler (Jillian Bell) is a hilarious, hot mess of a New Yorker who always knows how to have a good time, but at 27, her late-night adventures and early-morning walks-of-shame are catching up to her. Forced to face reality, Brittany laces up her Converse and starts running – but is she going in the right direction?

Paul is making his feature-film directorial debut with this film. He is an accomplished playwright: Colaizzo’s “Really” won a Helen Hayes Award and played a sold-out, twice-extended run Off Broadway. His second play, “Pride in the Falls of Autrey Mill,” premiered at the Signature Theatre just outside Washington, D.C.  "Brittany Runs a Marathon," says Colaizzo, is a celebration of what it took for one woman to find her footing, but it’s also a heartfelt nudge for anyone who needs a reminder that every race starts with a single step. It’s a message Colaizzo hopes audiences will not only relate to, but also be inspired by.
