'Greta' Thrills at the 2019 Spring KCET Cinema Series
Following a screening of "Greta," director Neil Jordan and Actor Chloë Grace Moretz attended a Q&A hosted by Cinema Series host Pete Hammond. This suspense thriller begins with Frances (Chloë Grace Moretz) finding a purse on the New York City subway. She returns it to its owner, an eccentric and lonely piano teacher named Greta (Isabelle Huppert). As they become closer and closer friends, Greta’s motherly charms dissolve into progressively disturbing ways and Frances discovers that nothing in Greta’s life is what it seems.
Chloë Grace Moretz is known for her work on "The Amityville Horror," "Hit-Girl," "Kick-Ass," "Let Me In," "Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising," "The 5th Wave," "If I Stay," "Hugo," "Dark Shadows," "Suspiria," "November Criminals," "Brain on Fire" and "The Miseducation of Cameron Post," which premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and won the U.S. Grand Jury Prize, Drama. Moretz was also listed on Time Magazine’s “The 25 Most Influential Teens of 2014” and “The 30 Most Influential Teens of 2016,” and she received a 2014 People Magazine award for “Next Generation Star” for her prolific work in television and film.
Neil Jordan is an Irish film director, screenwriter and novelist. He began his career as a writer, and his first published book "Night In Tunisia" won The Guardian Fiction prize and a Somerset Maugham Award. Since then he has published seven novels: "The Past," "The Dream of a Beast," "Sunrise With Seamonster," "Shade," "Mistaken," "The Drowned Detective" and "Carnivalesque." Jordan wrote and directed his first feature film "Angel" in 1982. His credits include: Television’s "The Borgias," "The Company of Wolves," "Mona Lisa," "Michael Collins," "The Butcher Boy," "The End of the Affair," "In Dreams," "Breakfast On Pluto," "Ondine" and "Byzantium." Jordan has been honored with numerous awards worldwide including the 1992 Academy Award® (Best Original Screenplay) for "The Crying Game."
