'If Beale Street Could Talk' Closes the Winter 2018 KCET Cinema Series

Following a screening of "If Beale Street Could Talk," producer Jeremy Kleiner, producer Dede Gardner, costume designer Caroline Eselin-Schaefer, editor Joi McMillion and editor Nat Sanders attended a Q&A hosted by Cinema Series host Pete Hammond. Jeremy Kleiner is an Academy Award®-winning producer and Co-President of Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment. Kleiner produced the Best Picture Academy Award-winning "Moonlight," "The Big Short," "Selma," "12 Years a Slave,"​ "Okja," "The Lost City of Z" and "War Machine," as well as this year’s "Vice" and "Beautiful Boy."​ Kleiner’s television credits include "The OA" and "Sweetbitter."

Dede Gardner is an Academy Award-winning producer and Co-President of Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B Entertainment. Gardner has produced "Moonlight," "The Big Short," "Selma," "12 Years a Slave," "The Tree of Life," "Brad’s Status," "The Lost City of Z," "War Machine,"​ "Okja," as well as this year’s "Beautiful Boy" and "Vice." Gardner’s television credits include the "Feud" series and Emmy Award®- winning "The Normal Heart."

Caroline Eselin-Schaefer is recognized for her work on "Moonlight," "Under the Silver Lake," "The Yellow Handkerchief," "Ballast," "The Paperboy," "As I Lay Dying," "The Hollars" and "The Sound and The Fury." Her television credits include "Family Tree," "Hand of God "and "The Girlfriend Experience."

Joi Mcmillon became the first African-American female to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Achievement in Film Editing for her work on "Moonlight," sharing the nomination with co-editor Nat Sanders. The duo won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Editing and were also nominated for an American Cinema Editors’ Eddie Award, among other honors. McMillon’s other features include "Lemon," "American Woman,"​ "Chlorophyl" and "SMILF" which was the Sundance 2015 U.S. short film Jury Prize winner.

Nat Sanders is recognized for his work on "Moonlight," for which he shared an Academy Award nomination with co-editor Joi McMillon. The duo received the Independent Spirit Award for Best Editing for their work on the film. Sanders is the first person to have won the prize twice, following his win for "Short Term 12." Sanders is also recognized for his work on "Medicine for Melancholy," "Your Sister’s Sister,"​ "Laggies,"​ "Humpday" and "The Glass Castle."
